Lord, must it always be
that so many people remain ignorant of your providence?
Must you, as it were, shower your favours on their heads,
while they refuse to accept your infinite generosity?
We would think a person absurdly foolish
if he refused to breathe the open air,
or to drink the water he needs.
Yet why may that same person not find you
in the air, the water and everything else around him?
Must I resign myself to possess so great a treasure from you,
while I watch other souls die of spiritual poverty?
Must I see them dry up like desert plants,
while living waters are all around them?
Jean Pierre de Caussade, 1675-1751, French Jesuit priest and writer

Jesus also told them other parables.
He said, “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his son. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify those who were invited. But they all refused to come!
“So he sent other servants to tell them, ‘The feast has been prepared. The bulls and fattened cattle have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the banquet!’ But the guests he had invited ignored them and went their own way, one to his farm, another to his business. Others seized his messengers and insulted them and killed them.
May this be the cry of our hearts each and every day.
