God, I want your guidance and direction in all I do.
Let your wisdom counsel me,
your hand lead me,
and your arm support me.
I put myself into your hands.
Breathe into my soul holy and heavenly desires.
Conform me to your own image.
Make me like my Savior.
Enable me in some measure to live here on earth as he lived,
and to act as he would have acted.
Ashton Oxenden, 1808-1892, English Anglican priest, Bishop of Montreal
The Complete Book of Christian Prayer, slightly updated
When my heart was grieved
and my spirit embittered,
I was senseless and ignorant;
I was a brute beast before you.
Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
One thought on “Conform me to your own image”
The words of this prayer sound like language borrowed by the late Dallas Willard who often called on leaders to disciple people to live their lives as though Jesus were living his life in them…which we know He is.
