Advent preparations

Lord Jesus,
Master of both the light and the darkness,
send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations
   for Christmas.
We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces
to hear your voice each day.
We who are anxious over many things look forward
   to your coming among us.
We who are blessed in so many ways
long for the complete joy of your kingdom.
We whose hearts are heavy
seek the joy of your presence.
We are your people,
walking in darkness, yet seeking the light.
To you we say, “Come Lord Jesus!”
Amen.

Fr. Henri J. M. Nouwen, 1932 – 1996, Dutch-born Catholic priest and author

Thunder in the desert!
    “Prepare for God’s arrival!
Make the road straight and smooth,
a highway fit for our God.
Fill in the valleys,
    level off the hills,
Smooth out the ruts,
    clear out the rocks.
Then God’s bright glory will shine
    and everyone will see it.
Yes. Just as God has said.”

  1. I love this prayer from Nouwen. I am also reading his Advent devotional this year. Thanks for deepening my time with God through your prayer resource.
