Heavenly Lord, we thank you that
in your transcendence and hiddenness
you have made yourself known through revelation.
Thank you, too, for the scriptures
which are the embodiment of your dealings
with our spiritual forefathers.
We thank you that despite the limitation
and fallibility of human language,
you have made it possible for the divine revelation
to be expressed in human language.
Inspire, we pray, those involved in translation and evangelism,
that guided by your Spirit they may accurately identify
idioms, symbols and other aspects of culture,
that fully express your divine truth.
Lead them to consider avenues of communicating
your message through the word of our time,
that nature and culture may join in singing
your eternal glory and praise,
and through them your Gospel may be published abroad.

Prayers Encircling the World

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him.
This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.
