Rabula Gospels, 6th century AD, By Dsmdgold, Wikimedia
Hail, O power of the Son!
Hail, O beauty of the Father!
Hail, O Spirit most pure,
Bond of the Son and the Father!
O Christ, send down on me
This Spirit with the Father,
That he may sprinkle my soul with his dew
And fill it with his royal gifts.
Synesius of Cyrene, c.370 – c.414, Greek bishop of Ptolemais in the Libyan Pentapolis

But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.
This is why it says:
“When he ascended on high,
he took many captives
and gave gifts to his people.”
(What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.)
Love the artwork. It’s amazing to me how much ancient art covers biblical scenes and the scriptures.
