Lord God, how faithful you are to us
You chose us in Christ
inviting us to commune with you
as you commune with us
You are completely devoted to us
being mindful of all our ways
Your goodness and lovingkindness
pursue us all the days of our lives
We are not so faithful to you
being distracted by our many whims and projects
cravings and lust
returning to you when it suits us
No wonder you are described as a jealous God
Jealous for our attentions and affections
Jealous for our devotion and petitions
Somehow you bear with our faithlessness
You continually woo us back to yourself
while we are prone to wander
Cause us to remember the dramatic love story
of your rescue mission to save us from our desperate state
Cause us to hope in your promised consummation
that will bring us completely
into your exalted presence
Thank you for being faithfully jealous
and not giving up on us
Help us to know your heart
your heart that yearns for us
Oh, please receive our feeble gestures
of love and adoration

Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden. For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
