Almighty and everlasting King, Prince of peace,
Creator of the heavens and earth in a righteous order.
You are our heavenly father who rules us with all your justice.
We offer our prayer of thanksgiving.
We acknowledge that we have lived unjustly
with one another and within your creation.
You intended us to live in straightness.
You expected honest living, that we would treat others justly and fairly,
for life’s highest reality is being just and doing God’s will.
How can we be just before you our God?
We have embraced violence.
We have not been righteous.
Have mercy on us.
We plead that the world’s morality may measure up to your standard of justice.
May men, women, young people and children seek to do justice.
There are national governments which we trust are ordained by you, Lord.
We plead for the leaders that they may act justly with your people.
As they deliberate, God help them always to have a mind that is in Christ Jesus,
to make righteous resolutions and recommendations.
Governments are supposed to be advocating right and fair living,
but instead they advocate murder, corruption, depriving people of social rights,
poor education systems, economic decline, misappropriations of funds,
poor health facilities, slums, poor road conditions, war.
Lord, help world leaders to understand that your righteousness is a consuming fire.
Lord, we need someone to understand.
Grant unto us justice that we may praise you.

Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;
therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.
For the Lord is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait for him!
therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.
For the Lord is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait for him!
The prayers of believers from the two-thirds world often carry the power of a plea for justice because they most often experience injustice, though this prayer can also capture the same emotion we should have for our own country.
