Lord our God,
as Simeon awaited the salvation of Israel,
you granted him the joy
of recognizing Christ in Mary’s arms.
Strengthen the light of faith in us
that we may contemplate the divinity of your Son.
He humbled himself to raise us up to you,
and he reigns with you
for ever and ever.

Simeon took [Jesus] in his arms and praised God, saying:
Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss your servant in peace.
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel.
