Trusting in thy Word, O Lord,
we wait for thy Spirit.
Send him forth from thy holy heaven,
to sanctify our hearts,
our deeps,
which without him are empty and without form.
Perhaps in those depths of our being
there are secrets hidden,
desires and tendencies we dare not acknowledge
even to ourselves.
Enter there too.
Burn, purify, transform.
We are not able of ourselves to help ourselves.
We wait upon thee.

John answered them all, saying,
“I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming,
the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
