Even the most common changes
in out lives
are difficult:
to repair a leaking tap,
to start a more efficient book-keeping,
to re-arrange a room,
to clean a cupboard,
to write a letter,
to come to a reconciliation
and shake a hand.
It is often not done;
though the light appeared,
the idea flashed,
the star shone,
it was not followed,
nothing happened.
All remained the same.
Those wise men
were wise,
because when they saw
that new star
indicating
a new life,
a new king,
a new ruler,
a new child
they followed faithfully
notwithstanding
all the risks.
Let us follow it
too
until
we arrive.

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,
during the time of King Herod,
Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked,
“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?
We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
