We come to you, our God and our Father,
because you are the same from generation to generation.
Yet when we listen to you there is always something new,
something startling in what you are saying to us.
At times we are shaken, at times we are hurt,
yet we know we must still listen.
And listening we learn that your Word is always a living Word
and that the work to which you call us
is always a contemporary task.
Edmund Banyard, 1920 – 2003, English minister and author
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
