O Love, you have made me yours

O Love, O God, you created me,
   in your love recreate me.
O Love, you redeemed me;
   fill up and redeem for yourself
   whatever part of your love that has fallen into neglect within me.
O Love, O God, you made me yours,
   as the blood of your Christ has purchased me;
   in your truth sanctify me.
O Love, O God, you adopted me as a child,
   form me and fashion me after your own heart.
O Love, you chose me as yours, not another’s;
   grant that I may cling to you with my whole being.
O Love, O God, you loved me first;
   grant that with my whole heart
              and with my whole soul,
              and with my whole strength,
   I may love you.
O Love, O God almighty, in your love confirm me.
O Love most wise, give me wisdom in the love of you.
O Love most sweet, give me sweetness in the taste of you.
O Love most dear, grant that I may live only for you.
O Love most faithful, in all my tribulations comfort and nourish me.
O Love who is always with me.
O Love most victorious,
   grant that I may persevere to the end in you.

Gertrude the Great, 1254 – 1302, German Benedictine, mystic, and theologian
