We give you thanks, holy Father,
For your holy name that you
Have caused us to dwell in our hearts,
And for the knowledge and faith and immortality
Which you have made known to us
Through Jesus your servant;
To you be glory forever….

Remember your church, Lord,
To deliver it from all evil
And to make it perfect in your love;
And gather it, the one that has been sanctified,
From the four winds into your kingdom,
Which you have prepared for it;
For yours is the power and the glory forever.

Didache 10:2-5, early Christian treatise from the first century

As they sat down to eat,he took the bread and blessed it.
Then he broke it and gave it to them.
Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him.
And at that moment he disappeared!

They said to each other,
“Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road
and explained the Scriptures to us?”
